netTrekker Village

We know there are a lot of educators out there already using BrainPOP's engaging animated movies from within your netTrekker search results. If you're one of those educators, tell other "Villagers" how are you using the resources together in your classroom? How are they helping your students?

I use Brain Pop through Nettrekker in my 3rd grade computer lab to search for the movie on Martin Luther King, Jr. I print the activity sheet and the students fill it out while watching the movie. This takes 2 - 40 min lab session and by the time they are done they can explain to you the civil rights movement and even some timelines for important events in his life. I also use Brain Pop Jr for a telling time activity for 1st graders. My teachers tell me they use the math, social studies and science portions to re-enforce lessons in the classroom. We love our district subscription!

Thanks for sharing this example. This is great. Would you mind if we used this as an example in a future netTrekker newsletter?

I wish we could Brian Pop along with Nettrekker in our district. I think the Brain Pop puts a great spin on learning.

I guess I'm a little confused as to why netTrekker and Brain Pop need to be used together...can't you just search Brain Pop for whatever topic you're looking for? I don't get the extra step...

I see Nettrekker as sort of a portal to get to other sites (set up in a partnership agreement) that because you went through the nT login the student has access to that site's advanced features while you maintain consistency for the student. He or she can go right back to your class folder for a worksheet or discussion on the subject.

Our district uses a portal similar to this but more expansive. With one login we can access all the participating sites and are given "subscriber" permissions as if we logged in to all of them separately.

Hey Nicole,
Just this year our district had the two linked together so that now search results within nettrekker return resources from brainpop as well. I think one of the most valuable things about it is that you can save the results in your nettrekker portfolio and continue to build those banks of resources to share within Blackboard in fewer steps.

Mary,
We're always looking for great examples like this about how netTrekker subscribers are using netTrekker, along with other resources like BrainPOP and Blackboard, in their teaching and learning. If you're interested, would you be willing to email me directly with a little more information - maybe an example lesson where you've used netTrekker, BrainPOP, and Blackboard together as you described above. Email: lhannah@netTrekker.com

Thanks!

Nicole, I don't think that Brain Pop and nettrekker need to be used together, but the Brain Pop movie gives students a visual to connect new information to. Plus the characters are very memorable. i tend to show the Brain Pop movie and use the readings as deeper research. Then we take the quiz as a group. It is a great way to generate conversation.

As I thought more about this I realized that I also should have said that when bp is accessed through nT, then the advanced features of nT can be utilized.
